About
David Neptune
David is an award-winning documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles. He was born and raised in Japan, and later, after attending film school at Brooks Institute of Photography, David moved into directing new media content. Two of his viral hits are “What Kind of Asian Are You?”, and “But We’re Speaking Japanese”, with 60 million views combined.
In 2019, he released his first documentary feature film, “Words Can’t Go There”, which he directed and produced. The film is about his father, musician John Kaizan Neptune. It premiered at Warsaw International Film Festival, and won Best Documentary Film at The Valley Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Following the release of his film, David began focusing primarily on story producing. He has worked on shows like “Street Food” Seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix, “Truth Be Told: Rick Ankiel" on Fox Sports, “Marvel’s 616” on Disney+, “Beyond The Spotlight” on Curiosity Stream, “Men In Kilts” Season 2 on Starz, and “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones” on Netflix.
Currently David is in production on several new projects of his own about positive change makers — people who are truly making a difference in society so we can all live more in harmony with the planet.
David also works as a professional English/Japanese interpreter, translating for notable contributors in the entertainment industry including Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Greta Gerwig, Naomi Watanabe, Hirokazu Koreeda, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, and Lady Gaga.
David enjoys being a bridge between the cultures of Japan and the United States through his work, and he aims to not only connect people to one another, but to also inspire people to connect more deeply within themselves.
